ILTP Consulting carry out every type of Road Safety Audit from Feasibility Stage 1 to Stage 3 and post implementation Road Safety Audits for jobs of varying scale. ILTP have conducted over 200 Road Safety Audits since 2007. ILTP can also carry out Accident Investigation and Prevention studies for local authorities or private clients.

The aim of Road Safety Audits is to:

To ensure the schemes operate as safely as possible
To minimise accident numbers and severity
To improve awareness of safe design practices by design, construction and maintenance staff
To consider the safety of all road users – especially Vulnerable Road Users

The ILTP Road Safety Audit team is headed by National Roads Authority accredited Team Leaders, who rigorously adhere to the statutory guidelines that govern the Road Safety Audit procedure, as well as ensuring that the remainder of the Road Safety Audit Team Members are suitably skilled, trained and experienced in this field. ILTP Road Safety staff are trained by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA), to international standards. The ILTP Road Safety Audit Team have fulfilled all statutory requirements of on-site experience and training to ensure that the team is fully accredited and approved by the NRA.

ILTP have Road Safety Audit teams ready to carry out work across the country from our offices in Dublin, Limerick and Cork, meaning a very short lead in time to carry out our Audits.

Relevant experience

ILTP have carried out Road Safety Audits varying in size and complexity and include:

Large Motorway Schemes. M3 Clonee - Kells, The scheme extends from the North of Meath at Derver on the Meath/Cavan border to Clonee on the Meath/Dublin border. To fully appreciate the extent of this project one has to consider the main elements of the scheme, such as 51 kms of motorway, 10 kms of dual carriageway, 4 kms of two lane single carriageway, 12 kms of link roads, 35 kms of side roads, six grade separated junctions, 34 overbridges, 29 underpasses, 29 roundabouts, 2 toll plaza's, two railway bridges and three major river crossings. ILTP carried out all of the stage 2 & 3 as well as the 2 TTMS & 3 TTMS Road Safety Audits on this scheme over a 4 year period.
M9 Temporary Traffic Management Audits, ILTP undertook Temporary Traffic Management Road Safety Audits on the M9 Motorway, Kilcullen – Carlow section. Stage 2 & 3 Audits were carried out on the existing N9 where the under construction Motorway passes under the existing road. The N9 forms an extremely busy national road linking the towns of Waterford, Kilkenny and Carlow with Dublin.
M8 TTMS, ILTP were have carried out a Temporary Traffic Management Road Safety Audit as part of maintenance work that was to be carried out on the Toll Plazas on the M8 outside Fermoy town. Stage 2 & 3 Road Safety Audits were carried out as part of the works.
M4 Accident Investigation & Prevention Audits, ILTP were commissioned by EuroLink to analyse accident data on the M4 motorway from Kilcock to Kinnegad and to identify accident cluster sites and reoccurring accident causes, and to propose mitigation measures to prevent the future occurrence of those accidents, the sites were them visited and mitigation measures were proposed, with the aim to reduce accidents and injuries.

Signalised junctions and Roundabouts incorporating pedestrian and cycle facilities,
Development access proposals ensuring safety for all road users,
Safety audits of primary school drop-off areas for vulnerable road users and children,
Safety audits of “Home Zones” where pedestrians and vehicles share the same space,
Safety audits of District Centre urban realm areas,
Temporary Traffic Management Schemes (TTMS) where road user safety is paramount at road works,
